Learn how to lower the risks of certain diseases (diabetes, osteoporosis, cancer and depression).

Exercise: can reduce the risk of heart disease, rate of bone loss, risk of fractures and make you feel better.  It’s never too late to start.  Exercise can build strong bodies and self esteem.  Consult a physician regarding any limitations on your activity.

Nutrition: healthy eating habits are beneficial for weight management, cardiovascular systems, cholesterol levels and controlling diabetes.  Remember to reduce fats, sugars and sodium, increase fiber (roughage) through whole grains, vegetables and fruits, increase hydration with water, consume more calcium (dairy products).

Stop smoking: IMMEDIATELY!  Reduce your risk of developing certain cancers, lung and cardiovascular disease.  Contact the American Cancer Society (www.cancer.org), American Heart Association (www.amhrt.org), American Lung Association (www.lungusa.org).

Socialization: develop and maintain relationships, join a group, gym or volunteer.  Stay sharp and involved in meaningful activities.

Relaxation Techniques/ Meditation: reduce stress and achieve emotional balance.  Participate in yoga, tai chi, or reiki.  Unite the mind, body and spirit  - gain a positive attitude.
